The Gut Coach Chronic at Christmas Guidance - Help is at Hand

Don’t suffer over the holidays just to please others

Chronic health conditions take place 365 days of the year and don’t just cease because it’s the festive period. Often there is pressure on the sick individual to be well and this pressure might be due to others around them not understanding their illness or having no interest in trying. A lack of empathy for your situation may leave you feeling isolated from the mainstream of activities when you know that joining in is going to be too hard on your body and mind. So, how can you find balance at this time of year?

Follow your gut instincts

If you are sick and you are someone who struggles to say no then start thinking now about what options you have available to support you when you don’t feel up to socialising or are physically and mentally unable to do so. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do just to make other people happy, particularly if it will compromise your health. You are the only one who knows your own body, follow your gut instincts rather than putting on a brave face just to please others.

Try my healthy recipes to help keep you on track

Social gatherings may involve certain foods and alcohol that you know make you feel worse and you end up feeling pressured into joining in with, even when you don’t want to. Equally, you may be struggling with your own dietary compliance to stay away from certain snacks and drinks that inevitably push you into the bad side of your symptoms or condition and therefore being exposed to these things ins’t good for you. Ultimately, surrounding yourself with people who support, motivate and encourage you to stay on track with your health will help you to wake up feeling better on the special day you celebrate in December, than those who cannot empathise with your situation.
